The Blue Dragon is a legendary divine beast in China, one of the four gods that protects the north, south, east, and west.It protects the east and is also called the Blue Dragon.
Suzaku protects the south, Byakko protects the west, and Genbu protects the north.
The blue dragon has been considered auspicious sign since ancient times.
What the Blue Dragon rulesIt governs spring. Since it is the guardian deity of the east where the sun rises, it brings the power to make things grow. The blue dragon is considered to be the most precious of the four divine beasts, and is said to bring good luck in terms of money, career advancement, success, and victory.
In Japan, a blue dragon is also depicted on the pedestal of the principal image of the Kondo of Yakushiji Temple in Nara Prefecture, and on the eastern wall of the inner stone coffin of the Kitora Tumulus in Asuka Village.
The four divine beasts are deeply related to the ancient Japanese Onmyo-do, and among the five Yin-Yang elements, the Kirin (or Yellow Dragon) joins the Seiryu, Suzaku, Genbu, and Byakko. The five elements of the Five Elements theory were associated with directions and colors, and the Kirin (Yellow Dragon) was included as the guardian of the center, becoming the Five Gods (Five Spirits).
