Ryujin (Dragon Gods) is an incarnation of a god, and there is a legend that the reason why he has scales is that he was originally a carp that changed into a dragon as it climbed up a waterfall.  Gold dragon is a dragon god who protects the center of “earth” according to the theory of five elements. Gold dragon (Kinryu) Dance held at Asakusa Kinryuzan Sensoji Temple The festival is held to commemorate the emergence of Kanzeon Bodhisattva, the principal image of Sensoji Temple, from the Miyato River (present-day Sumikawa) by Emperor Suiko (628) on March 18th. 

The Kinryu no Mai was created to celebrate the opening of the main hall of Sensoji Temple. The story goes that during the reign of Emperor Suiko, when the principal image of Sensoji, a 1.8 inch golden Kannon statue, was scooped up from the Sumida River, a dragon suddenly descended from heaven to protect and enshrine the Kannon statue. It’s because of this.

In Nakamise and the temple grounds, the “Kinryu” that protects the “Lotus Bead”, which symbolizes Kannon, is paraded around, and dances are performed to the music of the “Kinvu Asakusa Union Hanagumi”
